Southern Cruisers Riding Club

It doesn't matter what you ride, just that you ride.

Southern Cruisers Riding Club is an ALL Brands, No Dues Riding Club with no minimum attendance requirements.   We are an international club with 507 chapters and over 31,207 members located throughout the United States, Canada, the Phillipines, France, the Czech Republic and Australia. We welcome riders of H-D, Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, BMW, Suzuki, Kawasaki or any other brand you can name. Our rides/events consist of local rides, charity events, overnighters and multi-chapter rides. We also participate in local and some major Rallies. If you love to ride, are looking for a fun, safe, family oriented Riding Club or just someone to ride with, the Southern Cruisers is for you. Come on in and take a tour of our club by clicking on the links above."

What we are about - The Southern Cruisers Riding Club is for everyone who enjoys riding with a club, and our club Policies are very simple...

     *No Dues or Fees!
*You DO NOT have to show up at All club meetings!
*No tasks for you to perform!
     *and NO Major Commitments **

However, we do ask a few things from our members:

     *Always ride safe!
*Don't Give the Club a Bad Name!
     *Support your Club and Chapter!

We just want to ride for the thrill of riding. Most of our trips will be local with a few overnight or extended rides around 300 miles from here. So what ever brand of Street Legal motorcycle you ride, you will always be welcome at the Southern Cruisers Riding Club. The cost for membership is FREE. Our Club back patch is optional and is available for purchase for only $37.50. We also promote Motorcycle and Public Safety rules and Activities.

  - Online Registration (be sure to use Rappahannock Chapter 143)

  - Where you can see what we're up to and where we're up to it at.

  - A quick word from our  1st Officer to our Newest Members.

 - General guidelines for group riding, lane changes, proper positioning withing the group, accidents, hand and arm signals and more.  Even if you chose not to join our group, this is good to know information incase you ever meet or join up with a group because these practices are generally universal.

Really cool video for harleys but speaks to the hearts of ALL Riders!

 Hot Weather Riding Tips

Once the temperature outside exceeds that of body temperature you need to wrap up rather than undress. Why? 1) It reduces water loss from evaporation 2) It creates a cooler microclimate around your body 3) It prevents serious sunburn.
Ever seen a guy all bundled up with his jacket on and a smile on his face - when it's ninety eight degrees outside?
Some riders know the secret to air conditioned riding, some don't. While it might seem more comfortable to take your jacket off when it's hot out, think again. If you like the protection your coat offers you can have it and keep cooler at the same time. Soak down your tee shirt.
This wet tee method actually offers a cooler ride at 90 plus degrees than you'd have if you didn't have a coat on at all. By soaking down your tee your body is able to more easily disperse of its heat and not have it collect in the fibers of your shirt. Loosen your coat as much as you can and button up the front if you have buttons. With a loose coat and air moving into through the front between the buttons you'll have a real live water cooling system on your body and feel much better rolling down that hot highway.

Other tips for hot weather riding:
- Light coloured, full face helmet. It might sound unbelievable but when it gets really hot its cooler to ride with a closed visor.
- Sunglasses and light cotton scarf (don’t forget heavy duty sunblock for exposed skin!)
- Loose cotton shirt with long sleeves (cooler than a T-shirt) worn under a protector vest. For the top layer wear anything in a light colour – or nothing at all and look like a Ninja turtle (but see note below about sunburn).
- Wet your scarf and hair, and in very hot conditions soak everything if possible and do it every hour or so.

Prevent FATIGUE. Stop frequently to rest, stretch, move around, drink water and cool down. Research shows that accident rates are reduced by regular short rest breaks.
Prevent SUNBURN. Remember that you can burn through many lightweight fabrics (a good reason to go for denim/heavy cotton outer garments). Slap on total sunblock with highest SPF (Sun Protection Factor) for those exposed bits of flesh. Pay special attention to the ‘danger’ areas – between sleeve and gloves, back of the neck, throat and ‘V-neck’ if jacket is undone, and nose. Don’t forget to keep re-applying it too.
Prevent DEHYDRATION. This is a very serious condition but is preventable. Signs are less frequent urination (urine passed will be less in volume and darker in colour), fatigue, headache, dizziness and cramps.

Drink lots of water. This is probably the most important thing about riding in hot weather. Consider using drinking bottles which allow you to drink while on the move. If you put them in a wet cover (sock, towel, etc) they will stay cool as you ride. If not, stop often and make sure you carry a good supply of water.

Ride Safe~

The SCRC has choosen St. Jude Children's Hospital as its primary charity. We are not discouraging the participation in other charities. We do want to point out some reasons that we chose St. Jude as our Club Charity.

1. 87% of all donations to St. Jude actually go to the costs involved with developing cures for Cancer. 13% go toward Administrative Expenses.

2. St. Jude's Hospital serves the world.

3. St. Jude has a very high success rate in curing or sending disease into remission.

4. St. Jude shares the results with Cancer Treatment and Research Centers from around the World.

5. St. Jude relies on the assistance of organizations like the Southern Cruisers Riding Club to keep their Research and Treatment Centers in operation. Without the generosity and concern of groups like ours, their mission would fail.
